Monday, October 27, 2008 - Many of you have heard the rumors, and some of you have even ventured to ask questions, all of which we have attempted to deftly avoid over the last several months until details were finalized, but today, Carl & Jeanne are pleased to announce that after 35 years in the restaurant business, Carl has decided to step aside and focus his energies on his other love…teaching.  General Manager Michael Fletcher, known simply as Fletcher to most of you, will be purchasing the restaurant from Carl & Jeanne in the very near future, with plans to continue the wonderful tradition of quality food and great service for years to come.

From now through November 15^th, to celebrate Carl’s 35 years in the business, we will be changing our menu to offer some of Carl’s most requested dishes, both from the original Trattoria Sofo menu, and the menu at his first restaurant, Casa di Maria.  We invite all of you to come in and join us as we celebrate a long tradition in Toledo of serving some of the best Italian cuisine anywhere.  As one of the pioneers of Toledo’s restaurant industry in the 70’s, Carl and his family were the first to serve Gnocchi, and Casa di Maria was one of the first places to serve scallopini veal dishes like Saltimbocca and Milanese.  For years, diners flocked to Point Place to savor dishes rarely available anywhere else.  The tratition continued after the close of Casa di Maria at Trattoria Sofo, where big portions and old world charm were the key ingredients in everything he served.

We expect the place to be busy and buzzing during this transition time, so we encourage you to call and make a reservation for dinner to secure your seat, enjoy a glass of earthy Italian wine, and share your memories with Carl and the gang.  All reservations can be made by calling 419-882-2266.  Of course, you’re welcome to just stop in as well.

Watch for future emails in the coming weeks for information and details about the new restaurant Fletcher will design, building on Carl’s longstanding tradition of friends and family, great food, a comfortable space, and a welcoming atmosphere.  For now, we once again invite all of you to stop in over the coming weeks to see Carl, savor the food, share a few memories, and hopefully a glass of wine or two.
